Elyria & Brecksville (Cleveland Area)

Lorain County Portion of the North Coast Inland Trail

This 12.3 mile paved bike trail is 12 feet wide, and runs from Toledo through Oberlin, to Elyria Ohio. This former rail railroad was built in 1866 linking Elyria, and Oberlin to the railway extending from Cleveland to Toledo.

Elyria has an “on street bikeway” beyond the north end of the bike trail extending through Cascade City Park. This “on street bikeway” leads to the 3 1/2 mile “Bridgeway Trail” within Lorain County Metroparks “Black River Reservation” park. This 12ft. wide paved Bridgeway Trail leads to the City of Lorain.

Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail

The bicycle trail is a part of the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area, which runs within Cuyahoga county (Cleveland area), and Summit County (Akron). This 20 mile crush stone bike trail passes by the base to an aquifer as shown in the background of this photo (where the canal had a water bridge over the river) along with numerous canal locks. The northern part of the trail has a canal historical museum, and working canal lock.

Brecksville City Park is a popular entry point onto the trial, and is located midway. the The City Park is located just east of Brecksville, Ohio on State Route 82 (on Chippewa Rd.) The entrance to the park is located immediately west of the large bridge which is pictured in the photograph. Brecksville is located off of I-77 between I-480 & I-271. The rail service also runs within this National Recreation Area from Akron to the Cleveland Area.
